JPII Announces Inaugural Class for Hall of Falcons
As we celebrate 25 years in Catholic education, we would like to recognize those individuals who embody Learn Enthusiastically, Lead Honorably, Live Responsibly, our graduates. The hard work and dedication by the people who built our school from the ground up did so for our students. Through our halls many amazing young men and women have ventured, establishing a legacy of excellence, service, and devotion to a Christ-centered life. In the past 25 years, 1,600 students have graduated from Catholic High School/Pope St. John Paul II, many of whom have achieved career success, created beautiful families, and experienced extraordinary adventures. We are honored to recognize four outstanding alumni who represent the four pillars of our school. We present to you our Hall of Falcons inaugural inductees!
Reverend Stephen Chase Pepper Class of 2003 |
Reverend Pepper began his undergraduate studies at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. He graduated summa cum laude in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and Catholic studies. He served as a FOCUS missionary for the next two years at Temple University in North Philadelphia. It was after this he decided to enter seminary and begin studying for the priesthood with the Congregation of Holy Cross at the University of Notre Dame in 2009. Fr. Pepper finished his studies at Notre Dame in 2014 earning his Master of Divinity degree. Later that year he professed his final vows in the Congregation of Holy Cross and was ordained to the priesthood the following year with five other classmates at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Fr. Pepper’s first pastoral assignment was to work in the departments of Campus Ministry, Residence Life, and Theology at King’s College in northeast Pennsylvania from 2014-2017. After deepening his passion for Dante, his order brought him back to Notre Dame to begin preparing applications for doctoral studies in Dante, and theology. He was awarded a Gates Fellowship to study Dante, and theology, with the Faculty of Divinity and St. John’s College at the University of Cambridge. Now in the final year of the degree program, Fr. Pepper is only a few months away from being Fr. Dr. Pepper. He is currently helping as an assistant chaplain at the university’s Catholic chaplaincy. Fr. Pepper’s greatest ambition in life is to be the first priest to say Mass in space.

Ms. Amanda Craig Bradow, RN Class of 2007 |
Amanda began her undergraduate journey by attending college and working full time. This approach proved to be more difficult than she initially thought and she began looking at her options. The United States Army seemed to offer many of the benefits she was looking for and would be a good fit for her. In 2010, Amanda planned to go to Army boot camp but after a year she was unable to secure a report date for boot camp. She believes that the Army was not God’s plan for her. She then approached a United States Navy recruiter and 11 days later, Amanda left for Naval boot camp.
In July 2011 she began her Naval career as an electronics technician, specializing in air traffic control radars. Amanda spent an 8-month deployment traveling the world while troubleshooting and maintaining the radars on the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), the largest Naval Warship in the fleet. Her deployment started in Norfolk, VA and continued to Bahrain, Dubai, England, Singapore, and Hawaii finally finishing in San Diego, CA. Her Navy journey then saw her on the USS George Washington (CVN-73) carrier on the east coast. Upon completion of her five-year sea tour, Amanda began her shore duty as a master training specialist. She taught newly enlisted Sailors how to operate the air search radar AN/SPS-49. Throughout her Navy career she continued her schooling and was accepted to the South University in Virginia Beach's nursing program. Amanda attended classes full-time at night and shadowed nurses at her local hospital on her off time. She applied for the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP), a highly competitive program that annually selects 40 candidates out of hundreds of applications, and she was accepted to this prestigious program. She graduated with her BSN in June 2021 and was then commissioned as a Naval Officer. She has moved through the enlisted ranks from E-1 to E-6 and is now an O1-E. Most recently she passed her NCLEX and is officially a Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia and celebrated her 10-year anniversary serving in the United States Navy. She is currently working at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, VA. Amanda is married to Tim Bradow, a fellow active-duty military member. A unique coincidence that Amanda and Tim like to share with others is that they both joined the Navy the same exact day. They have no children, but have four mini Dachshunds named Murphy, Teddy, Petey, and Isabel (Izzy).
Ms. Abby Wright Whitlock Class of 2013 |
A 2013 graduate of Pope John Paul II Catholic High School, Abby continued her education at Samford University in Birmingham, AL. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in music at Samford and sparked an interest in healthcare and psychology during her studies. This newfound interest led her to a new field, music therapy. After Samford, Abby attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL to pursue her degree in music therapy. In 2019 she became a board-certified music therapist with an additional certification in NICU-MT. Currently Abby is a full-time MT-BC at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL. She works in a therapeutic relationship with patients of all ages and abilities, using music as a tool to work on cognitive, social, emotional, and physical goals in the Neonatal ICU, Oncology, Acute Care, Psychiatric, and Palliative Care settings. Abby lives in Birmingham, AL with her husband, Ryan Whitlock, and their 7-month-old daughter, Blair. They attend Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Abby is grateful for her time at JPII for helping her discern how she can use her talents to serve others. She appreciates having learned from teachers who provided a space for creativity and opportunities to lead by example.
Mr. Tommy Brazie Class of 2015 |
Tommy attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and pursued a double major in International Relations and German Language and Literature as well as a double minor in Global Studies and French Language and Literature. While completing his studies, he worked in the German Capitol of Berlin as a language specialist and consular official for the United States Embassy. Tommy also volunteered as a tutor for the English Language Institute of Alabama where he instructed international students in American business English and culture and volunteered in youth outreach for French Language at a local elementary school. After graduating with his bachelor’s degrees, Tommy received the coveted “Fulbright” Grant to Germany. During his time as a Fulbright scholar in Germany, he taught primary and secondary children focusing on English, politics, history, and culture. Tommy has spent a lot of his time traveling the world, having traveled to 38 different countries and lived abroad on three separate occasions. Recently Tommy relocated back to Huntsville where he works as an executive business consultant and language specialist to several Fortune 500 companies. JPII Welcomes Partner Schools' 8th Graders to Future Falcon Day
On Tuesday, September 21, 2021; JPII hosted students from St. Ann's, St. John's, Holy Family and Holy Spirit as part of the Future Falcon Day. In addition, we were happy to include students from Grace Lutheran to learn more about what we have to offer. Students competed in a scavenger hunt, observed various classes, played games, and took group photos! It was an awesome day and we are thrilled to meet our future Falcons!

The Athletic Department is excited to announce that the rebranding project for our main athletic hallway and locker rooms has been completed! Special thanks to the Falcon Booster Club for their financial support of this initiative and to Brent Walker at Cre8ive Graphics for making this a reality. It's our hope by investing in the upgrade of this area that our student-athletes and coaches can take pride in continuing our young, but growing tradition of athletics at JPII. Feel free to walk through and take a look next time you are on campus!

JPII Catholic Relief Services Formation Retreat
JPII students came together for a retreat experience to prepare for the work they will be doing on behalf of Catholic Relief Services. CRS Clubs are formed under the guidance of Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Our CRS Club is part of a national movement of chapters, clubs and others working to end global poverty.
As members of the CRS Club, students will learn about pressing humanitarian issues, develop important leadership skills, advocate on behalf of our global family, participate in community giving opportunities and take other impactful actions to create positive change.
CRS is motivated by the Gospel to cherish, preserve and uphold the sacredness and dignity of all human life. Our CRS Club embodies this mission and empowers students to live their faith through meaningful action that helps our global family.
St. John Paul II Catholic High School is the first CRS Club in Alabama. We pray that our community will support our endeavors as we begin this Gospel-inspired journey.

Guidance about the continuation of mask wearing at JPII by the Diocese of Birmingham will be updated next week. If we are to continue wearing masks, please ensure your student arrives at school with a mask. If students do not have a mask, we will continue to provide them; however, starting Tuesday, September 7, we will charge $1 per mask billed through your FACTS account.
